Aamir Khan said what Sonam Wangchuk has been doing is good work and does not have to be based on a character from ‘3 Idiots’ for us to respect him and the work that he does.

Actor Sonakshi Sinha has voiced support for social activist Sonam Wangchuk, who is on an indefinite hunger strike in New Delhi amid the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protests. In a video statement, she urged the government to open a dialogue with Wangchuk.

Sonam Wangchuk hunger strike: CJP announced a mass hunger strike on 16 July. Joining them is actor Atul Kulkarni from his Mumbai home.

In the charter, the CJP called for sweeping structural reforms to restore transparency, accountability and credibility in India's public examination system. Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk is on hunger strike at the CJP protest site.

Funsukh Wangdu, the character played by Aamir Khan in 2009 comedy, was inspired by Sonam Wangchuk, the Ladkh-based engineer, climate activist and education reformer.

However, Wangchuk, 59, refused to call off the hunger strike and instead questioned the Centre's unwillingness to engage in talks. Dipke quoted Wangchuk as saying 'Don't ask me to end my fast. Ask the govt why they won't even have a dialogue.'

Wangchuk, 59, has lost 8.25 kg, his blood sugar levels have repeatedly fallen below 70 mg/dL (normal fasting levels are around 100 mg/dL), and he is experiencing constant dizziness, severe muscle loss and visible weakness, with his rib cage now clearly visible, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke said.

Sonam Wangchuk's blood pressure was recorded at 104/66 mm Hg, and total weight loss at 7.8 kg, on Sunday. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke shared the health update on X on Sunday.
